Flying Fish Brew Co. Will Triple Its Size and Significantly Expand Its Workforce as It Moves into Somerdale’s CooperTowne Business District

Somerdale Mayor Gary Passanante has been on a mission to bring new businesses to his town. He has worked closely with the Camden County Freeholder Board and the state in his efforts to do so.  His redevelopment efforts have paid off with residential housing and a brand new shopping center, CooperTowne Center, rising out of the ashes of a shopping center that had been virtually abandoned for years with only a 20 percent occupancy level.

The latest addition to the newly designated “CooperTowne Business District” will be Flying Fish Brew Co., which got its start in the warehouse district in Cherry Hill and is now moving to Somerdale, where it will triple the size of its business in a $6 million dollar expansion, creating 10-15 more local jobs in the first phase of its expansion, with the promise of 20-25 additional jobs as they finish the facility. The jobs will be mostly manufacturing.

Flying Fish, which is the largest craft brewery in New Jersey and one of the fastest growing breweries in the nation, was started by Founder and President, Gene Muller, more than 15 years ago. Muller, a former marketing executive, had a vision for what he wanted to create and, judging by the popularity of his brews, he has succeeded.

“We are so happy to see this business expand and reach a new level of success in Camden County,” said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “Mayor Passanante was a great driver of this initiative, creating a chain of successful elements, from affordable housing to WalMart, a movie complex, Verizon Wireless, Applebee’s (coming in  December) and now Flying Fish Brew Co.. His team and the County’s Economic Development Team have created a great redevelopment story in Somerdale. We are working on more such success stories around the County, and have a number of wins this year that have resulted from partnerships with municipalities and cooperation with the state.”

“This has been a great year for our town,” said Mayor Passanante. “We have worked hard to bring businesses here in a mixed-use development that can be a showcase and a model of what can be done to rebuild our towns and create new business and jobs. We know that Flying Fish Brew Co. will be a major draw and tourist attraction here, as well as a great neighbor and business partner. Stay tuned for more information on their grand opening.”
