South Jersey Port Corporation to Rename Beckett Street Terminal after Joseph A. Balzano

12/5/2011 South Jersey Port Corporation Hosts Ceremony to Rename the Beckett Street Terminal as the Joseph A. Balzano Marine Terminal
WHAT: South Jersey Port Corporation will rename its Beckett Street Marine Terminal in Camden, New Jersey, the “Joseph A. Balzano Marine Terminal,” in honor of its legendary executive director who died in October with more than 60 years of service with the port.
WHEN: Wednesday, December 14, 2011 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. EST.
WHO: The renaming ceremony will feature Congressman Robert E. Andrews, State Senator Donald Norcross, Camden Mayor Dana Redd, South Jersey Port Corporation Chairman Richard Alaimo and Acting Executive Director Kevin Castagnola and Monsignor Michael Doyle.
WHERE: 2nd and Beckett Streets, Camden, New Jersey 08003 (101 Beckett Street)
WHY: The son of an Italian immigrant stevedore, Joe Balzano started his career at the South Jersey Port in 1951 working his way from forklift operator on the docks to rising through the ranks to become the tireless executive director in 1988 who built a major international port complex along the Delaware River which is the number one plywood port in the United States and the top cocoa bean port on the east coast.
